Do you find yourself saying things like, “someday I’m going to stop drinking or stop drinking so much?” Do you also imagine what your life would be like if you didn’t drink so much? Maybe you would be in better shape or you’d spend more fun time with your children. Perhaps you would even look for a different job if you just had the energy or felt good enough about yourself.
Or maybe staying “buzzed” is helping you stay right where you are and to tolerate whatever it is that is keeping you from being happy and moving forward with your life. I don’t know how many people I’ve talked to recently that are using alcohol as a way to tolerate the status quo – a dead-end job, a bad relationship, a poor financial situation. I have news for you. Those things are not going to magically change themselves while your head is buried in a fog of red wine or vodka tonics. YOU are the only person that can change your life.
