getting-startedI’ve said before and I’ll say it again. You HAVE to have a positive reason to cut back or quit any of your bad habits or you just won’t commit.  That means identifying some areas of your life that are less than ideal – or may even be leading to your turning to substance or bad habits in order to cope – and start putting together plans for change.

So right now, take a moment and think about 2 or 3 things that would make your life significantly better. Would it be more money, a better job, losing weight, living in a different home or city? Here are some categories to get you thinking (if you’ve been doing the MODER8 program for a while, you should recognize these from the Life Inventory):

  • Self– Physical health, appearance / weight, mental, emotional or spiritual.
  • Family
  • Environment (home / location)
  • Work / Volunteer Work
  • Money
  • Hobbies / Leisure

Now put together some goals and action items based on the 2 or 3 things that would make your life better and start taking ACTION! Get excited and enthusiastic instead of turning to alcohol or food to numb out and stay where you are. YOU are the ONLY person that can change your situation and your life. So stop putting it off and start today. And as you focus on making the changes and accomplishing your goals and action items, the eating and drinking will begin to shrink – and so will your throbbing head or bulging waistline!
